What is Project 2025?

Project 2025 is a presidential transition project to set the country on a path that resists leftist values. The goal is to promote the nuclear family, all states' self-governance, improve our military, and protect our “God-given” constitutional rights. Section 3 is titled “The General Welfare” and starts off with the goal of managing our national debt. It immediately discusses medicare and medicaid reform, as the authors know it is a hot topic. The author, Daren Bakst, is a Director of the Competitive Enterprise Institute’s Center for Energy and Environment at the Heritage Foundation. The Heritage Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports the implementation of conservative policy. They have funded this entire report.

The Project's Goals For the DOJ:

Bakst begins this section by establishing the lack of trust between this department and members of the public. He reasons this is because of controversial investigations such as one where the department “collaborated with Democratic operatives to inject the story into the 2016 election that the FBI was engaging in a domestic influence operation to pressure social media companies to report more “foreign influence” than the FBI was actually seeing (545). To fix this, all investigations should be reviewed and any that are “unlawful or contrary to the national interest (548)” should be removed. The 10-year term for the director position should be removed and aligned with the heads of other major departments.

There should also be a refocus on violent crime, with the death penalty strongly enforced. Bakst wants the administration to secure the border and strongly pursue what they call “international crime enterprises.” The RICO act will be used often and funding will be increased for tools used to deal with security threats. The China Initiative will be reinstituted because “China was accountable for approximately 80 percent of all prosecutions for economic espionage and approximately 60 percent of all thefts of trade secrets (555)” and education about the danger of China (and Iran) will be given to Americans. Other crimes that will be given attention are abortion and voter registration fraud. Immigration offensives will also be strongly prosecuted and guidance will be given to immigration attorneys. Bakst wants a policy instituted where third-party requests for “politically motivated investigations (563)” will be automatically denied and all federal grant dispersals will be reviewed, with a complete overhaul of the application process.
